Weekly Training Report

Summary

December 31st 2007 through January 6th 2008. Again, time off, but no riding. Just too much running around, drinking, eating, visiting, sleeping in and generally being a lazy bastard. Started to get it back into gear though.

Tuesday

First time back on the bike, sort of, hit the rollers for 20 minutes before bed and did some sit-ups and push-ups.

Wednesday

Commute to and from work to get legs back, no hard training yet.

Thursday

Wussed out, sounds like Dawn Patrol didn’t happen anyway. Just a commute.

Friday

Wussed out again, storming in a major way. No commute.

Saturday

New bike day! Ben, Ashley, and I drove down to Mountain view to get my new bike. No riding today though.

Sunday

First ride on the new bike, did Barber Shop plus the bottom of Conzelman with Ashley. My new bike rocks socks.

Summary

December 24th through December 30th, 2007. The week of Christmas should have been a great time to ride, unfortunately it turned into a lot of sleeping in and running around. Ashley and I did a fun Olema Pt. Reyes loop on Christmas Eve morning.

Summary

December 17th through December 23rd, 2007. I fooled myself into thinking I’d ride and do finals. Finals won. Ran on Monday with Mike, felt pretty good. Then I was out of commission all the way through Thursday. Left on Saturday for Marin.

Summary

December 10th through December 16th, 2007. Last week was about a 75% success – definitely got in some good rides and workouts, but not everything I planned to do. This week was about the same.

Monday

No ride, no commute – just a day full of studying.

Tuesday

Planned on the Freewheel ride but wasn’t feeling it in the morning. Waited until the afternoon and gave running a try. Threw on the shorts and shoes and went out for a brisk 5 minute walking warm up. Then alternated 60 seconds running 90 seconds walking until I got to Kezar, about 5 or 6 reps. Got to Kezar and did ten or so sets of stairs from the bottom of the stadium steps to the top of the exit steps. Then repeated the 60” (90) on the way back. Good workout, running definitely works your body in a completely different way than cycling. I tried to keep my form and stride conscious, keeping my shoulders back, back straight, and knees high.

Wednesday

Skipped the dawn patrol. My legs were feeling it from my short run, something I need to get used to. Just studied for finals.

Thursday

Skipped Tempo, just did the Barber Shop loop with Mike, Travis, Connor, Chris, and Greg. Started off still trying to wake up so I got dropped before we even hit the bike path. Started to feel better after that, the long flat giving me a real chance to warm up. I even stuck to Travis’ wheel for half of the Camino Alto climb before getting dropped and finishing the climb with the rest of the guys. Did a little worse on the Sausalito Lateral, but felt good anyway.

On the final sprint Travis took off right as I glanced away so I got a late jump from a little further back than I would have liked. I gave chase anyway and kept him within a few bike lengths for about half of the sprint before losing him. It’s a long sprint, almost 1.5 km, so I don’t feel too bad about sticking for about half of it.

Friday

Just a commute to rest the legs from yesterday.

Saturday

I’m a bum, just studied.

Sunday

Bum again.

Summary

December 3rd through December 9th, 2007. Homework and illness completely ruined last week, but I started to feel better this week.

Monday

Stayed up until 4:30am finishing a school project so I stayed home today and rested.

Tuesday

Raining in the morning and didn’t feel like trying to follow Travis and Connor up hills in the rain. Instead I did the CTS Crit video on the trainer. The CTS videos are pretty tough if you make them tough so I got a decent workout.

Wednesday

Dawn patrol in the headlands with Will and Ben. Usual Conzelman climb but it was too dark and foggy to hit the backside so we went down the McCullough saddle toward the beach. Ben flatted before the climb so I was running short on time and turned back early to do the McCullough climb and head back home via the rabbit hole.

Thursday

Skipped Tempo Thursdays and the Freewheel ride and instead busted my ass inside on the trainer and with Cyclo-core.

Friday

Legs killing me from Thursday, so just a commute.

Saturday

Bike handling clinic in Mill Valley hosted by ZTeam. Got some useful practice bumping, bike sumo was fun, though the pacelining and moving up through the pack drills were too disorganized to be of much use. Check out Ashley’s post on our day at the clinic.

Sunday

Slept in and spent all day watching TV.
